Retrofit refers to the modernisation or extension of existing (usually older and no longer produced) systems and resources.
Diminishing availability of machines and equipment with increasing operating time is an indicator of an unstable production plant.
Production shutdowns are caused by the failure of system components. At the time, a lot of hardware components used were already discontinued and are hardly available on the market any more. In addition to spare parts supply, specialists are required who still are experienced with the old technology. At the same time, market requirements do not stop driving the technical progress.
With a retrofit or a targeted modernisation plan, the existing equipment can be maintained and modernised in terms of productivity and safe production.
